OWERRI — In a remarkable demonstration of solidarity and shared purpose, stakeholders from across Owerri Zone converged at the residence of the Operational Leader and Co-Chairman of Owerri Zone United, Prince Charles Amadi (Charlvon), to reaffirm their commitment to unity, the Charter of Equity and the collective aspirations of the zone.
The meeting, which witnessed an unprecedented and massive turnout, brought together traditional rulers, clergy, political leaders, captains of industry, community leaders, youth representatives, women leaders and other critical stakeholders from across Owerri Zone.
Participants noted that the gathering was a reaffirmation of the unity that has already been achieved through Owerri Zone United, the Apex umbrella platform that emerged from the harmonization of previously existing groups and interests within the zone who had long set aside their separate identities to collectively pursue the interests of Owerri Zone through a single, united platform.
Addressing the gathering, Prince Amadi expressed gratitude for the sustained spirit of unity among the people of Owerri Zone, describing it as the foundation upon which the zone's political, economic and social aspirations would be realized.
He emphasized the need for continuous unity, consultation and cooperation among all stakeholders, stressing that the gains already recorded through collective action must be protected and strengthened. According to him, Owerri people must continue to speak with one voice on matters affecting their common destiny while avoiding divisions capable of undermining their shared objectives.
The meeting attracted what many described as the cream of Owerri leadership. Present were traditional rulers led by the Chairman of Ndi Eze Owerri Zone, HRH Eze Emmanuel Nwachukwu ; members of the clergy from Catholic led by Father Dr Gerald , Anglican, Pentecostal fellowship, and Aladura churches; President-Generals of men, women and youth organizations; other leaders and representatives of various associations across the zone.
Also present were political stakeholders, captains of industry, candidates and members of different political parties, reflecting the non-partisan nature of Owerri Zone United and its openness to all individuals committed to the progress of the zone.
A major highlight of the meeting was the renewed endorsement of the Charter of Equity and appreciation for Governor Hope Uzodimma's commitment to its implementation. Prince Amadi commended the governor for promoting a vision anchored on fairness, inclusion and unity among the constituent parts of Imo State, while reiterating confidence in his pledge that Owerri Zone would produce his successor.
The Operational Leader also appreciated the goodwill and support extended by leaders and stakeholders from Orlu and Okigwe zones, particularly through the Imo Council of Elders and other influential leaders/ Groups who have aligned themselves with the equity project.
As part of efforts to further strengthen the bonds of brotherhood among the three senatorial zones, the meeting resolved that Owerri Zone United would embark on solidarity and appreciation visits to leaders, groups and stakeholders in Orlu and Okigwe zones. The visits, stakeholders noted, would serve to deepen mutual understanding, express gratitude for their support and reinforce the spirit of cooperation necessary for the continued progress of Imo State.
Prince Amadi also announced one of the major resolutions earlier reached by the leaders of Owerri zone United —the formation of the "Council of Elders of Owerri Zone" Chaired by Chief Barr Marcellenus Nlemigbo . He disclosed that the body, will be formerly inaugurated very soon. They are expected to provide guidance, counsel and strategic direction on matters affecting the zone. According to him, the Council of Elders will serve as a unifying and advisory body for our zone.
Speakers at the event unanimously endorsed the position of the Operational Leader and reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining the unity that has become the defining strength of Owerri Zone.
Among the notable personalities present were Prince Marcon Nlemigbo, Okenze Sylvester Obinna, Chief Chidi Ibeh MFR, Chief George Eche, Chief Charles Ogu, Hon Sir Levi OGUIKE and Sir Chimdi Ejiogu alongside numerous political leaders, serving and former public office holders, legislators, government appointees, community leaders and captains of industry.
Goodwill messages were received from Ambassador Kema Chikwe, Captain Emmanuel Iheanacho, Chief Jerry Chukwueke and other distinguished stakeholders who were unavoidably absent.
The meeting, moderated by the Spokesperson of Owerri Zone United, Hon. Barr. Kingsley Ononuju (Ekwedashike), was widely described as electrifying, colourful and historic, with virtually every sector of Owerri society represented.
Participants expressed confidence that the continued unity of Owerri Zone would further strengthen its voice and position it to achieve its aspirations within a more united, equitable and prosperous Imo State.
