...ADC Mbaitoli Launches Disciplinary Probe Into Ejiogu, Five Others Over Alleged Parallel Leadership and Party Division
Mbaitoli, Imo State | 19 March 2026
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State has commenced disciplinary proceedings against six of its members over allegations of anti-party activities, factionalization, and conduct deemed capable of undermining the unity and constitutional order of the Party.
Those named in the petition are Chief Christopher Ejiogu (Ubomiri Ward), Chief David Aguocha (Ogwa Ward 2), Dr. ABC Nwosu (Umunoha/Azara Ward), Pharm. Canice Nwosu (Umunoha/Azara Ward), Jonan Jackson (Umunoha/Azara Ward), and Chief Oscar Okorie (Umunwoha/Umuagwu Ward).
The petition, submitted by concerned members of the Party, alleges a series of coordinated actions that include the convening of factional meetings outside recognized party structures, the creation of parallel leadership arrangements, and the promotion of activities capable of causing division within the Party.
Allegations of Parallel Structures and Leadership Claims
Central to the complaint are claims that one of the respondents, Chief Christopher Ejiogu, convened meetings under a “coalition of parties” platform at a private venue in Ubomiri, during which he was allegedly proclaimed as “Apex Leader” of the Party in Mbaitoli.
The petition further alleges that at a factional meeting held on March 16, 2026, participants resolved to establish a parallel office of the Party, a move described by petitioners as a direct challenge to the authority of existing party structures.
Disruption of Official Party Meeting
The petition also cites an incident on March 16, 2026, where individuals allegedly linked to the respondents disrupted a scheduled leadership meeting at the Party’s Local Government Secretariat, forcing organizers to relocate the meeting to an alternative venue.
Following the disruption, it is alleged that a separate factional meeting was held, after which statements were issued reinforcing claims of alternative leadership within the Party.
Expanded Involvement of Other Members
According to the petition, the other respondents were present at a subsequent meeting held on March 16, 2026, where they are said to have participated in and/or endorsed the factional arrangements and parallel leadership structure.
The complaint further raises concerns over a public message issued by one of the respondents which reportedly included individuals identified with other political parties, including members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a development viewed by petitioners as raising questions about party loyalty.
Constitutional Breaches Alleged
The petition anchors the allegations on provisions of the ADC Constitution relating to party discipline, citing offences such as:
* Anti-party activities
* Unauthorized factionalization
* Creation of parallel party organs
* Conduct likely to bring the Party into disrepute
* Acts capable of causing disaffection among members
The petitioners argue that the actions complained of constitute a pattern of misconduct rather than isolated incidents, and have called for firm disciplinary measures.
Disciplinary Process Underway
In line with the Party’s constitutional procedures, the Mbaitoli LGA Disciplinary Committee is expected to:
* Notify the respondents of the allegations
* Invite them to respond and present their defence
* Review evidence and make recommendations to the appropriate party organ
Possible sanctions, if the allegations are established, may range from reprimand and suspension to expulsion from the Party.
Implications for Party Unity
Party observers note that the development comes at a critical time as political parties begin internal preparations ahead of future electoral contests. The outcome of the disciplinary process is expected to have implications for party cohesion and organizational stability within the Local Government Area.
