P-Square Peter Okoye Admits Being Co-signatory To Account Linked To $1m Fraud

Nigerian singer Peter Okoye has told a Lagos High Court that he is a co-signatory to a bank account connected to an ongoing fraud investigation, a position that contrasts with his earlier denial of involvement.

VerifiedGist reports that the disclosure emerged during the trial of his elder brother, Jude Okoye, who is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged $1 million fraud.

While being questioned in court, lawyers presented documents indicating that Peter was listed as a co-signatory on Northside Entertainment Limited’s Ecobank Nigeria account.

Peter acknowledged this, stating that he was added as a co-signatory alongside his twin brother. However, he insisted that he neither signed cheques nor executed transactions on the account.

He explained that his previous denial stemmed from information he received during a telephone conversation with bank officials. According to him, Jude was initially the sole signatory before Peter and his twin were later added.

Peter further clarified that ownership of the P-Square music catalogue rests with him and his twin brother, not Jude.

He noted that the group operated through Northside Entertainment Limited and Square Records Limited, which handled both their musical productions and business dealings.

The EFCC has alleged that approximately $1 million was withdrawn from Northside Entertainment Limited without proper authorisation, accusing Jude of misappropriating company funds and breaching trust in the management of the group’s finances.

The trial forms part of the broader dispute within the Okoye family over the administration of P-Square’s business affairs and royalties.

The music duo, formerly managed by Jude, initially split in 2017 amid financial disagreements, reconciled in 2021, and later parted ways again.

The court has adjourned proceedings to a later date for continuation of the hearing.
